This month, August 2012, we have 2 full moons to contend with. This will conjure up feelings of fear or  maybe give you a good excuse to go wild, while blaming the skies influence.

The first full moon at the beginning of August will not only have an effect on the day of the occurrence, but after, for at least 7 days.  The second full moon this month on August 31st is called a Blue Moon. It is called that because it rarely happens twice in one month. You know that old saying 'Once in a Blue Moon'? Well, that's where it comes from.

Dog bites, death, botched surgery, losing tempers, looking visually different are just a tiny few of the things attributed to the lunar occurrence.  The word lunar being what people used to coin the term lunacy. There are claims by some that the dark side of the moon increases the amount of patients admitted into hospitals with all types of illness. True? Who knows for sure.

Traffic pile ups, drivers being reckless and road rage are also blamed on the moon. Is it that we just notice it more at certain times, but it is always happening?  Like during Mercury Retrograde, things go upside down.  Things go upside down when Mercury is Direct but we have nothing to blame it on, so we just chalk it up to 'that's life'. Is it the same for the full moon, half moon, harvest moon, new moon, etc.?

Many myths have been debunked through the years. Many were/are believed and cause unwarranted fear. There are no werewolves waiting around the next bend, though some believed there were for centuries. But, is there a correlation between the cycles of the moon and people's behavior? I believe so. Whether it's selective memory or not, a lot of crazy events have happened to me and friends/family during the full moon. Being an Aries, born with a quick temper, I try to be more careful not to instigate fights when that maddening feeling starts beating in my chest. It's a concerted effort on my part and as the years have gone on, I am not there yet, but getting better at not shooting my mouth off.  I'm also much more emotional and will take offense at any remark, no matter how trivial. Say I gained a little weight and you are meat!

There are loads of myths and tons of folklore regarding all moons. Many psychologists have said it is ridiculous and there is no basis for such fears. Others, like police departments in different parts of the world claim the crime rate is most definitely higher during full moon times. They believe it and plan accordingly, no matter what professionals say. Coincidence? It's up to you to decide.
